Unable to take to the track competitively in 2014, trainer Anthony Cummings has confirmed talented gelding Fiveandahalfstar in the 2015 Southern Cross Stakes final field.

Running second in each of the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m), Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at the beginning of his most recent preparation through the 2013 autumn, Fiveandahalfstar was again unlucky to place second in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in March when blocked for a run, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) on April 6th.

Having placed seventh in a Randwick barrier trial on February 22nd, Cummings is confident of both a competitive performance in the 2015 Expressway Stakes and a return to peak condition this season for the Hotel Grand gelding.

Breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory in 2014, Driefontein has returned to racing in typically strong form this year and will leave from the ideal barrier 4 in the 2015 Southern Cross Stakes.

Charging home to take out the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) on April 26th most notably over autumn, Driefontein returned for a credible sixth in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) before placing second to Deep Field in the Group 1 Salinger Stakes (1200m).

Unable to match the late pace in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) before returning to the paddock for a brief spell, the daughter of Fastnet Rock ran fourth in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast on January 10th before running a close second to Weary in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on January 31st.

Hot Snitzel and Bull Point are both unlucky to have not secured a Group 1 victory over impressive racing careers, and have been confirmed to resume in the 2015 Southern Cross Stakes.

Posting seven wins and as many minor places from his 30 competitive starts so far, Hot Snitzel returned for second in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) last autumn; returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) on April 26th.

Unable to make much of an impact over three starts through the 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival, the son of Snitzel performed well in a Rosehill barrier trial on January 20th and will leave from the rails draw in the Southern Cross Stakes.

Running a close third in the 2013 edition of the Golden Rose, Bull Point was unable to return to the same racing heights under Gai Waterhouse through the 2014 Autumn Carnival and was transferred to the care of leading trainer Chris Waller.

Running third in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) upon resuming in spring, the Fastnet Rock entire placed second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) on September 13th before running third in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

Running on for a credible sixth in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), Bull Point finished a close second to Hooked in the Group 2 Crystal Mile on Cox Plate Day, but was unable to figure when 13th in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) most recently on November 8th.
