Returning to racing in typically competitive form this time in, Driefontein ($4) has opened as and maintained status as favourite in 2015 Southern Cross Stakes betting markets, ahead of clear market mover Hot Snitzel ($4), Territory ($4.40) and Bull Point ($4.80) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Driefontein win the 2015 Southern Cross Stakes as outright favourite, will Hot Snitzel justifying favouritism amongst punters or will one of their classy rivals hit the line in the clear?

1st

Bull Point ($4.80)

Bull Point found exceptional form for Chris Waller over the 2014 Spring Carnival, has been allocated an ideal barrier and will carry just 55kgs in the 2015 Southern Cross Stakes, and is therefore more than worth consideration for a bet at current $4.80 odds. Posting three wins and a further seven minor place finishes over his 16 start career so far, Bull Point ran third in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up and second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) on September 13th. Progressing to an impressive third in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later, the Fastnet Rock entire was luckless when checked and sixth in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) on October 11th, but responded well in placing second in the Group 2 Crystal Mile. While unable to make much of an impact in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), Bull Point has reportedly taken well to his time in the paddock and is a leading chance for success this weekend.

2nd

Driefontein ($3)

Driefontein broke through for a maiden victory at the highest level over 1200m in 2014, and after placing a close second in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) two weeks ago, appears primed for another competitive performance in the Southern Cross Stakes. Running second to Deep Field in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) most notably over three spring starts, Driefontein returned to the paddock briefly over summer, but has quickly found form in finishing sixth in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) and fourth in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast leading into her Expressway Stakes second. Allocated the ideal barrier 4, Driefontein is a noted pace setter and will be difficult to catch if ahead in the final straight at Randwick.

3rd

Hot Snitzel ($4)

Hot Snitzel returned to racing in exceptional form in autumn last year, and while charged with carrying 58kgs this weekend, is more than worth consideration for a Southern Cross Stakes bet after drawing the ideal barrier 1. Running second in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) on April 26th, Hot Snitzel placed a credible sixth in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) on May 10th, but was unable to make much of an impact over two proceeding Queensland starts. Confirmed to be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy, punters may find value in adding Hot Snitzel as a selection in a Southern Cross Stakes quinella or trifecta bet.
